This winter has been amazing for school delays and closings. Most of the storms have dumped on us between midnight and 4 am making it difficult to open schools on time, if at all. Then the streets are well plowed and salted by afternoon and we can all go out and enjoy our snow day!
I was actually hoping to go to school today. The girls already had a 4 day weekend, so one more day means even less they will remember. But whatever, I'll take the extra day off. I think 3 days is the limit for my school before we start making them up. I conveniently booked our flights home from Boston the Monday after Spring Break in case they try to make us come in that day (like last year) :)
Even though I had off yesterday for the holiday, today was better because I knew everything would be open. After sending Jason off to work, Parker and I took a 2 hour nap. Well, more like I tried to sleep and Parker barked at the neighbors shoveling. I had some nightmares last night and an uneasy stomach, so the extra sleep time was lovely. I hit the bank, got an oil change, and took care of my glucose test.
I'm ready to hear that I failed the glucose test. First off, my practice told me NOT to fast. I had to get the test this week, so once I heard I had off, I figured today would be a good day. I decided this AFTER I had a huge glass of juice and baked oatmeal (with 1/2 c. sugar in it) for breakfast. I went on to trusty (or not so trusty) Baby Center.com and read mom's comments about the glucose test. Most said they would fast or you'll end up failing and doing the horrible 3 hour test. I read this again AFTER I ate left over pot roast with potatoes. I called my practice to ask if it was even worth my time to do it today. She reemphasized they want to see my level without fasting. Roger.
So I drank the flat, orange soda tasting glucose drink. Went to the lab. Now, I did not have a great experience at this lab last time. The receptionist was grumpy and they took forever. I usually go to Lab Corp and like it there. This place is by my OB office, so I thought I'd try it again. The same receptionist was unpleasant, they were still slow. And this time time was important because I had to have blood drawn at exactly 1 hour from the time I stopped drinking. The receptionist calls someone named Marcia Hollencamp up to look at my paper work. She writes on the form that I need to have my blood drawn at 2:22. Great.
At 2:03, I get called back. Uh, come on people! Good thing I said something. Back to the waiting room...
2:22 comes...
....and goes....
...2:25, I get called back. Not sure if minutes make that much of a difference. I'm still annoyed.
The tech tells me I look big. I'm flattered.
2:30 I'm in my car snarfing down a PB and Jelly sandwich.
So we'll see the outcome of the test. I will NOT go back to this lab if I have to repeat it. That's for darn sure.
It's week 27- the last week of my second trimester! Almost exactly 3 months until my due date. Under 3 months of working left :)~
