New House: The rush before the storm

January 22, 2016: The day we own TWO houses.  Too bad house #2 is not a beach house.  That's right, we settled on our new house on Friday!!!  And oh yeah, there was a major blizzard heading our way a few hours after settlement, like 3 feet of snow type blizzard.

Settlement was a breeze and we were out of there in under 30 minutes.  Then it was the mad rush to get as much stuff moved to the new house so our family could live there comfortably for the next how-ever many days.

Key things needed:
1. air mattresses/sleeping bags and pillows
2. travel DVD players
3. Junk food
4. Lots and lots of beer

We were succesful with our initial move-in considering it was just Jason and me doing all the work.  We were able to get so much moved in a short period of time thanks to this beast.  When you own two houses and are living on one salary, one must find ways to save money, like not hiring movers...

The Sprinter borrowed from a MOPS friend

We had that beast packed full and parked at the new house, waiting for us after settlement.  The Odyssey and Subaru came in mighty handy as well.  Two or three trips back and forth (only 4 miles between houses), and we were ready to honker down for the blizzard.  The first snow flakes started to fall as we were delivering the beast back to its owner.  Thank you God for your timing!

We had a memorable first night in our house; the kids slept together in Braylen's room on air mattresses.

We woke up the next morning to this...

Busting out the back door

That's a lot of snow and it is expected to snow all day

Our beautiful backyard!  So excited about this part of our new place

Hire the child labor and get shoveling!

Long johns make me giggle

My boys hard at work

"Um, can we have a snack break?"

Meanwhile, this is Mommy's snow project

Evie's room goes from yellow...

... to purple (of course)

When all was said and done, we got over 2 feet of snow.

The good thing about moving in during a major winter storm is all your neighbors are outside shoveling, so it was an easy way to meet them.  Most of the neighbors we met are older, like 50's/60's.  I am sure there are kids around, but like mine, they were probably inside staying warm.  I bet we will find them when the weather is warm and we are all outside riding bikes and breaking our cabin fever.

I love this picture.   My little girl all cozy in her
slippers watching the snow fall while using
the window sill as her desk.   I love this house already!

What a memorable way to spend our first weekend in the new house.  I was bummed we couldn't snuggle up by our wood burning fireplace (it has to be fixed and we got a "credit" at settlement for it.  We'll need to wait until the townhouse sells to address this big expense).  I am excited to make this house our home.
