First I hoped we would have a Friday the 13th baby, now I'm hoping the full moon has some effect on labor. Of course I've been reading up on it all day. Apparently labor and delivery floors are bumping on full moons.
I had some irregular contractions last night. But I woke up this morning with nothing :( Jason went to work like normal. I took 2 naps today totaling about 3 1/3 hours of extra shut eye. I figure if I'm sleeping time will pass faster.
Round two of acupuncture to trigger labor was tonight. Nothing is cooking yet. Nugget was very active again during it. My next round will be on Thursday after I meet with the midwives to schedule my induction.
The clouds parted to show off the full moon tonight as we took our nightly stroll around the circle. I'm hopeful something will happen tonight or tomorrow! Then knowing my luck, there won't be a room for me at the hospital because lots of pregnant women had their water break...
Pregnancy is all about ups and downs. You try for so long not to get pregnant, then you get frustrated when you can't get pregnant. Once you are pregnant, you worry about miscarriage and preterm labor. Then you get frustrated when the baby doesn't come. Maybe I should take a lesson from my past experiences with Nugget- stop trying to control & plan and it will happen!
Plan E starts tomorrow- Raspberry Leaf Tea :) I should start my own pregnancy myth busters show.

The Waiting Game
My senior exams are graded, I'm not working, and I'm sick of eating eggs every morning. It's time to come Nugget!
I woke up yesterday thinking it was going to be "the day". I had Braxton Hicks contractions Thursday night and Friday morning. I've been having them for weeks, but didn't know it until the midwife said something about my stomch being tight when she measured me. I'm a first time mom. I thought that was Nugget "putting his back into it" :) Apparently not.
So now it's the 14th, Nugget's cousin turns 3 today. I understand Nugget doesn't want to share a birthday with his cousin, but newsflash Nugg, even with birthdays in the same week, you will still celebrate them together. Yesterday was the day to come because my parents are already in town and could have dog sat Parker. Sigh.
The waiting game luckily will end in about 10 days, but if Nugget takes that long I might go crazy, plus I'm taking unpaid leave if he doesn't hurry up. I have acupuncture again on Monday evening and Tuesday is a full moon. C'mon Nugget!!
Don't tell this pregnant woman to enjoy the time off, blah, blah. I know my life is going to change forever and I should rest and read, blah, blah. You try eating eggs EVERY morning for two months and tell me how you feel. Speaking of... it's time to make some scrambled eggs. Gag me.

"OFF"!
My mother loves to emphasize the word "OFF" when she is OFF from work. I'm glad her email to me last night was titled OFF! My mother cracks me up.
I am finished teaching, however, that doesn't mean I'm finished working. I am still required to grade my senior exams given today, enter grades, and write comments. Then comes advisor letters and underclassmen exams in June. In teaching are we ever truly off? When the business office told me I would take some unpaid leave these two weeks, I wanted to scream since I have definitely worked more than my required 40 hours a week every week in my entire teaching career. Such as I am taking a sick day today, but will put in at least 4 hours of work to get senior grades done. The nerve...
My midwife appointment was discouraging. No changes. I made an appointment for next week to discuss induction. I REALLY hope Nugget will come before then. I'm hopeful acupuncture will put me into labor. Attempt 1 is today at 3:30.

Drop It Like It's Hot
I was greeted at school this morning by smiles and "you are still here!" My friend instantly said, "you've dropped". Really?? I don't think I look any different.

Thoughts?
I guess Nugget is making the migration south. When I walk and sit my belly is touching my legs, something I normally didn't notice.
Hmmm...
Jason and I did a little trip down memory lane with the belly shots and still aren't convinced Nugget has dropped.

Promising Stats!
I met with one of my favorite midwives today, Jackie. I was anxious to hear if anything was progressing since I'm up to 9 doses of Evening Primrose Oil a day and had acupuncture this week.
Well, I AM!! I am 1 cm dilated, 60% effaced, -2 station. She said Nugget is facing the right direction and probably a good 7 pounds. I have gained a beastly 2 pounds, normal blood pressure (surprising since I had a breakdown to my sister about my short term disability 30 minutes earlier...), and measuring at 35. She predicts Nugget will be here BEFORE May 24th. She even mentioned she's working Mother's Day :)
I know I can be 1 cm dilated for weeks, but I'm happy Nugget is moving in the right direction- DOWN!
I have a hunch Nugget will be a Friday the 13th baby. My students hope I will have Nugget at prom. Uh, yeah no. That's tomorrow night and you can bet that I won't be going if I have any contractions.
A bagel and a huge portion of pasta is in my near future...

All Our Bags are Packed... We're Ready to GO!
Today I am 37 weeks, which means I am full term. Yippee!
We celebrated by finalizing our hospital bags. I went with Colleen's recommendation to wear the hospital gown the entire stay. As she said, who wants more laundry when you get home? I followed Amy's advice and brought my happy massager (her rec was tennis balls in a sock). And we took the nurse's tip to bring in a baby book or something to get Nugget's footprints and hand prints directly in it. We have some sudoku and crossword puzzles to challenge our brains and lots of socks! Nugget also has his/her going home outfit, hat, etc.

I had a great appointment with my acupuncturist yesterday. She performed a "light induction" procedure. I'll go back for another light procedure next Monday and more aggressive one next Thursday. With any luck, Nugget could be here next weekend! If we don't have any luck, we'll keep trying every 3 days or so. We're trying to make this happen as "naturally" as possible.
Nugget was extremely active during and after treatment. I think he got the message that it's almost time to leave his warm, safe home. As I rested while the needles did their magic, I was slightly panicked that delivery is coming. It could be THIS week!
I begged my acupuncturist to be in the delivery room with me. Jen feels like a friend at this point since I've been working with her closely since the Fall. Unfortunately she doesn't have rights to practice in the hospital. More examples of the ass backwards medical system...
I'm happy to say that my sciatic nerve and kankle issues are under control right now. Parker has been a bit of a grump and not eating right. Maybe he senses something?? We think he knows his top dog status is going by the wayside very soon. We took some family shots to lift his spirits.

On My Nerve!
First, I'd like to mention that is it MAY 1st. Even though I voted for Nugget's birth date to be far into May, I was slightly nervous Nugget wanted an April birthday like his father, aunt, and grandpa. Yippee for MAY! Plus I think the emerald is a beautiful birthstone for future jewelry for me :)
After taking a nap (while the Flyers got annihilated) on the futon, I rose to a shooting pain through my butt. I think all of us have felt this at one time of another- that pain in your pelvis when you get up quickly and it eventually adjusts itself. This pain did not... I'm pretty sure it is my sciatic nerve. I have pain from my lower back, through my left "cheek" and down my left leg. It's pretty painful to walk and change positions. Bending over is quite uncomfortable.
Ok, so maybe I shouldn't have talked trash about all the pregnant women at my classes the past two weeks that have due dates after mine that can't walk and get out chairs. I am now that person!
I hope Jen can work some miracles tomorrow at acupuncture and help me get a little more comfortable. I was able to sleep last night. I read conflicting opinions on the heating pad, so I'm going with nothing right now to ease the discomfort. Any moms have advice for me?
One other note- I washed the bay windows yesterday. Nesting or Spring Cleaning??
Besides possible nesting, no other signs Nugget is coming in the immediate future.
