For the past few months I've been meaning to write a ____ month update on Braylen. I know I will forget his cute voice, his quick walk where his cheeks giggle, and his mannerisms if I don't record them. So I am finally sitting down to just dump a bunch of random thoughts down to remember these precious moments.
Braylen Thomas at 17 months:
Nicknames: Bossman, Bray, Bray baby
Size:
18 month everything fit well.
Size 5W shoes.
I am pretty sure he weighs more than Evie now. I'd say 25 pounds. Both will be weighed next month.

Likes
Braylen loves to be outside. Don't mention the word "outside" unless you are walking out the door that minute. When Braylen hears "outside" he runs to the door saying "outside, outside, outside". He picks up the baby stroller and impatiently bangs on the door to go out. He likes to push toys around the circle, watch the older boys stroll by on scooters, gaze at men mowing the grass, play in the sandbox, splash in the water table, swing, go down the slide, run away from Mommy when it's time to get into the car or go inside, pop bubbles, pick weeds, point to birds and planes, fall on the sidewalk and scrape his nose... the list goes on and on. He will be very active at the beach and pool this summer!

Braylen likes to open doors, stand on stools, hold/shake pill containers, pull the plunger and toilet bowl brush out of the base, open the drawers in the kitchen and empty out as many contents as he can reach, flick the VCR slot flap, push buttons on the DVD player while Evie is watching a DVD, open DVD and CD cases, and take items off the door in the refrigerator.

As far as toys he
should be playing with: look at books, stir water or imaginary food, trains, put screws/nails into the holes on the work bench, hold the "on" button on the blender, climb onto chairs, watch DVDs (gasp! you know all second children have more screen time than firsts...)

Language:
Braylen has a plethora of words. Even so, he uses "that" and points as his main way of communication. As his mother, I recognize words like crackers (graham, animal, Ritz), blueberries, airplane, outside, cheerios, choo-choo, water, monkey, boat, book, truck, help. That should give you an idea of what we eat and he likes to do. He is starting to string two words together, like saying "Boat Book". I love listening to his vocabulary expand. The one word that has not come out of his mouth yet is "no". It will now that I wrote that. I am shocked since he hears it all day long!
Braylen's favorite name to say is "Dadio!" It is so cute. He loves Dadio. I am not sad one bit when he asks for Dadio instead of me. I actually rarely hear him say "Mommy". He knows "Par-ker" and I think I hear some "Ah-ies" too. He lights up when he sees MeMa on Skype. He hasn't mastered MeMa yet, but has some name that he says when we sees her. He can say "G" and his "Pop" grandfathers with prompting.
Random Skills:
I keep thinking as Braylen as my little baby and am shocked when he does things that I consider a toddler to do. Well, duh, he is one! He understands when we tell him it's time to eat; he goes immediately to his chair. He will ask for water when he is thirsty (or when he sees one of us drinking it). Braylen will grab his shoes if we are going outside. He made an attempt to put them on the other day. He knows how to put Parker in and out of his crate.
Since his streak of
boo-boos to the nose, the falls have been limited. He is steadier when he walks fast, the only speed he walks. He recently showed interest in going down the stairs standing up. If I hold his hand, he is allowed to walk down, otherwise we encourage him to go down on his bottom or backwards. At the playground, he holds onto the rail and gets up with my help. Mastering stairs is such an important milestone to me; I am pleased he is ready to tackle this big boy skill!
Personality:
Braylen is very affectionate with my mom friends. He will gladly snuggle with Lisa, Michelle, Alison, etc. He cries for a few minutes when I drop him off at the nursery at church or for MOPS, but otherwise is fine. He waves goodbye and gives hugs and kisses when you leave. It is so cute.
Braylen cries a lot around Evie. They do not share well (as they are not expected to at this age) leading to lots of screaming and tears. Evie also pushes Bray around. Poor guy. Someday he will realize he is much bigger and can take her down! On the flip side, the two of them laugh at each other while they do laps around the dining room table or when Braylen does silly things in his high chair.
For the most part, he is easy going and happy.
Teeth:
Molars in. Waiting on eye teeth, then 2 year molars. He is a major thumb sucker.
I'm losing steam. More updates on Braylen next month! It's my goal to get some decent videos.
