Daddy's Day

I asked Jason if he wanted to do anything special for Father's Day.  He said nothing.

I did as requested.

I am a Grinch still.  There are way too many Hallmark Holidays.  They overwhelm me.  Everyone changes their Facebook picture to their dad, writes some message for all of the world to read about how great their husband is and dad, everyone asks what we did special for Father's Day.... it all makes me cringe with guilt.  So again this year, I did nothing.

Luckily Evie made a card for Daddy at school to make up for my laziness.  I wrote an extra message.  Jason teared up.  Thank you MDOW!

I would call it a day about Daddy!


Maybe 2014 will be the year I will have my stuff together....

A Day to Celebrate Dada

I've decided I've turned into my mother or a grinch or both.  I'm so over the Hallmark holidays.  I'm tired of people asking "so what did you do for Mother's Day?"  NOTHING!   "Do you have anything special planned for Father's Day?"  N.O.  I didn't send one card this year for Father's Day.  It's not that I don't love my dad, grandfather, brother-in-laws, dad friends, father-in-law, or husband, I'm just not into these kind of holidays.  See, look at the list of people you could send a Father's Day card to... it's ridiculous.  It feels forced to me and I would rather tell Jason or my dad how special they are to me when I feel the urge.  Not on some Sunday in June.

On a side note, my mother used to be horrible about sending cards.  In her older age she has been on top of almost every holiday.  So maybe in another 30 years I'll be good about holidays again :)  Until then, don't make me feel bad because I didn't do something "special" enough for some made up holiday.  Thank you and have a nice day.

So what did we do for Father's Day?  LOL

For the record, it's Jason's 2nd Father's Day. 

Well, once I told Jason at 8 PM the night before I had nothing planned, I felt slightly guilty, then let it go.  We had an amazing Sunday, June 17th together as a family once I took the pressure off trying to do "something special". 

We started our day by getting up (that's for you, Jas), having a quick breakfast of banana chocolate chip pancakes (Jason's favorite), and took a hike with Evie on the trails behind our house.  It was such a pleasant morning weather wise and Evie enjoyed pointing to the great Patapasco River meandering next to the trail. 

After a nap and showers, we packed up some lunch for Evie and went to the Walmart parking lot at Port Covington to watch the air show as part of the Sailabration party in Baltimore.  The website said 1 pm as the start, so we got there around 12:45PM.  The first plane didn't appear until 2PM.  The breeze was cool, skies partly cloudy, and Evie was content eating, going in and out of her chair, and playing with my cell phone, so while I complained about the delay, it was like a family picnic (in a parking lot...)

The air show was impressive and I'm glad we waited it out.  The Blue Angels were pretty darn cool.

We topped off the night with flank steak (another favorite of Jason's) and Erin's yummy chard recipe.  

Jason commented how much he enjoyed our day together and my dinner.  I think I did pretty well for not having anything planned.

I like the no pressure Father's Day.  I'm going to do that more often on all these Hallmark holidays :)

Sailabration-Fathers Day

First Father's Day

Back when I was an ambitious new mom, I decided it would be a good idea to have a crab feast to celebrate Father's Day. I invited both of our dads and the Hettinger crew.

When Erica asked me if I was crazy last week, I realized I probably was. Who plans an event when they have a 3 week old?

My parents were a huge help all weekend cleaning my house and helping Jason set up the deck furntiture. Good job Marisa, make your dad and husband do all the work for father's day. Oh well.

We snarfed down a good 4 dozen of crabs and I nursed (ha ha) one beer. The weather somewhat cooperated and our annoying neighbors weren't, well, annoying. I was more concerned about eating my share of crabs that I didn't take any pictures of the picking event.

Father's Day 2011

All three of Jason's groomsmen are new dads this year. I'm glad he has a network of best buds going through the same joys and frustrations as us. Happy Father's Day to our favorite new dads- Jerry, Dave, and Todd! Evie has her pick of which boy she wants to date; she has three handsome choices. We know Brendan, Teagan, and Luke will all be prime dating material someday :)
