Adios friends... again

The main reason I dislike living in Maryland so much is I have lived here for 9 years and I am still searching for a best friend that lives less than 20 minutes away.  I have many amazing friends, but most of them live 1.5 hours away or more.  Just when I think I found the girl, she decides to move away.... and all of these girls have moved FAR away.

The real bonus of these potential girlfriends for life, is they married great guys.  Not only was I winning on the deal, Jason had buddies too.

First there was Aubrey and Nick.  Aubrey is the most amazing host and cook.  She helped me through my first and only year at Oakland Mills High School.  A & N showed me how NICE people are from the Midwest.  They cherish family and the simple things in life.  A & N left Maryland for England.  Too bad, right?  We quickly booked tickets to England to visit them.  They are going on 5 years in Europe.  Don't think MD will be on their top list of places when they return to the states.  I stay connected with Aubrey through her well written and updated blog.

Visiting a very pregnant Aubrey and Nick in England.
(Sorry Aubrey... this is the only one I could find on your blog
and mine are all who knows where... on film maybe?!)

Next, Erin and Brian.  If you read my blog enough, you will know our love for these people.  Erin was my Roland Park buddy.  I escaped to her art room for a lunch away and we drank Starbucks (at Starbucks) during "planning periods".  E & B remind us of our college friends- the type of people that don't make us feel stupid for not knowing a big word, willing to play games on a Friday night, and you can just be yourself.  They left Maryland for the Boston area.  Another great place to visit!

Ana shortly followed E & B.  Ana served as my therapist for 3 years at Roland Park.  She worked in college counseling, so she had a room with a door I could cry behind.  We could whine about school and Maryland for hours on the phone.  Although we didn't hang out a ton outside of school, I knew this girl had my back when I needed a friend.  Now she is so happy in LA and unfortunately the time zones make it very difficult to have those hour long conversations we used to have.   I had a trip booked to LA this winter, but had to cancel for Evie reasons... I will get there someday!

The one and only friend to visit us at the hospital.

My most recent goodbye was to Erin and Kevin.  These two people are a perfect pair.  While Ana was my go-to girl when I needed to talk, these two were our people when we needed something done.  When we lost our electricity, Kevin had us generated up in no time.  Erin has been a HUGE help with Evie.  During our most difficult times, these two did not hesitate to drop everything and help us out.  E & K's final farewell party was their wedding.  Dancing and drinks is my kind of way of saying good-bye.  They are off to the Bay Area.  Who wants to babysit so we can go back to San Fran and wine country??

Lesson learned- stop making friends with people that are not from Maryland originally... we all want to leave at some point.  While my heart sinks AGAIN for losing another friend, we gain a place to visit!

Awwwww, Marisa. You are so sweet.

If it makes you feel any better, sometimes it feels like my life is a string of friendships that each stay the same for about three years. Then we (or they) move and the close, drop-by-any-time friendship becomes a let's-talk-on-the-phone-if-our-kids-don't-object friendship.

You're doing an awesome job of looking on the bright side -- those are all awesome places to visit. So speaking of visits...when are Evie and H2 going to get their passports and come to Europe?!
