OCNJ 2015: Sun, Sand, and Surf

We're back, OCNJ!  Same place, same routine, same follow-up blog posts.  So I am going to skip all the gushing over OCNJ and just comment on the pictures.

This year I had a smart phone for the first time, so videos on the beach and selfies could happen (verifying I go on this vacation)

A storm churned up a lot of fun sea life for the kids to explore.  I think we found about 5 hermit crabs our first morning, all alive!  Of course we killed them all by leaving them in a bucket of water.  It wouldn't be a trip to the beach without smelly shells and sea life outside your front door, right?

Sand is the best entertainment source for kids and Daddio.

Drip castles

He might have pushed those dump trucks over miles of sand
during our week at the beach

Daddio's creative mind at work

Braylen's creative mind IN the work

All those miles of sand and we always have a sour puss
over something.

The endless trips to the ocean for water

Sharks and Portuguese Man Of War were headline makers this summer on the East Coast.  NJ, in particular, was seeing some of the deadly Portuguese man of war washing ashore.  You bet I was on high alert anytime someone was more than waist deep.  Braylen took a hard fall on a sand toy and got this nasty cut side.

"Shark Bait" was his new nickname

Thankfully we didn't see any unwanted sea creatures during our stay.  The rip current was bad one day, prompting the lifeguards to hold a "beach meeting".  It was pretty wild seeing all beach-goers from miles walking up to the lifeguard stand to hear what they had to say.  First time in all our years at OC that we had one of those!

My kids like to jump waves and run from them.  That's about my speed too as far as ocean swimming goes. I found Evie talking to her boogie board like it was her pet.  She was so stinkin' cute and funny.  I had to get a video

The last day, however, they started getting more adventurous.

Poor Uncle Sam had a bad back while we were at the beach.  He walked like an old man the entire time.  We chuckled at his pathetic stance, but I am sure he was in a lot of pain.  Despite his discomfort, we were ER free this time!

Two things I loved about this year:

1. Everyone walked to and from the beach.  Carrying sandy, sweaty, sunscreen lathered children over hot sand is not my favorite thing to do.  Hooray for older cousins and willing toddlers!

2.  2 PM happy hour on the front porch overlooking the ocean.  Braylen still needed a nap and Evie wanted some play time at the house, that meant early happy hour for mommy and daddio.

OCNJ is the best family beach resort.  I love OCNJ!
