It happened on Friday, July 17th, right after my trip to Beaufort, SC. I dropped the kids off at school, which is less than a mile from the house, and was on my way back to the house to grab a coffee before going to my doctor appointment.
A heard a bee buzzing in the van. The air was on, so the windows were shut. It must have snuck in while the kids were putzing getting out at school. I felt it fly into the neckline of my shirt. I geeked out. Tried to open the window and shoo it out. Then BOOM
I hit the telephone pole. It was so loud. Everything happened at once, the air bag deployed, the window smashed.
I exited the van in a state of shock. The air bag looked like it was smoking, so I thought the car was on fire. I don't think I ever turned it off. Wires were hanging down, the pole was being held up by my van. Since I was just dropping the kids off for 5 minutes, I didn't bring a wallet or my phone. Thankfully God had me 50 yards from the street that takes one to our neighborhood. Not 1 minute later, my neighbor, Melanie, saw me and picked me up. She took me home to get my phone and wallet and called the police. My arm and hands were burning from the airbag. Melanie is a PT so she ran through some questions to check if anything was broken.
Jason immediately left work. I messaged Lisa that I needed her. She showed up soon after to be with me while the firefighters and police sorted it out.
So so thankful I wasn't hurt, the kids weren't with me, and I didn't hit someone else. But now we were without the van with the bike hitch that we bought specifically for OCNJ. Oh yeah, Jason's "new" car was in the shop, leaving us none of our own vehicles.
Over the span of 3 weeks we had 7 different vehicles in our parking spots.
- Jason's Audi which he sold for Bethany's Subaru
- The Subaru needed some repairs (don't ask), so Jason had Liz's jeep

- The van was deemed totaled, so I used Lisa's Malibu while they were on vacation
- Subaru back. Jeep returned
- Subaru went to the beach with us.
- I got a rental car. Somehow I got the other "mini" named car.
Meanwhile, Jason handled all the insurance crap and found another white van for me.
Just three weeks later, I was back in a white van. We went used this time, but the model is a step higher than what we had. The DVD player is definitely worth the extra 2-3 grand.

I never expected to get a mini van for my birthday and a second one for my 10 year anniversary. Oh yeah!
