While I wouldn't say we are high fashion in any way, Jason and I like to look presentable when we leave the house. When we are in the house, well, that's a different blog post. Jason and I have officially taken over all 3 bedroom closets with our clothes, have 8 rubbermaids total under both our bed and the guest bed, have clothes in two dressers in our bedroom, and about 3 drawers in the guest bedroom. I'd say we have tons of clothes. Pregnancy clothes issues aside, why is it when we both dress for work or to go out, we have "nothing to wear"?
Nugget's furniture comes on Wednesday, so all the crap must be out of that room and ready for a complete change over to Nugget stuff. Nugget's closet still had some coats in it. We decided to put an extra shelf in the guest room closet to make more room for coats. So this was our project on Saturday morning.
As I schlepped another stack of clothes out of the closet, I wondered again why we need all of this stuff. I still have my wedding dress, not cleaned with the grass stains from our wedding day, hanging in there. I have two bridesmaids dresses (I am SO thankful I was only in 3 weddings- I had someone buy one of them from me) in long plastic bags. We have about 10 coats upstairs and about 10 more on our main floor that we are wearing right now. But why is it when we go out for dinner, I feel I don't have a coat to wear? Then I go out to dinner and realize my coats are so 2000 and I need a new one.
Then I just finished ironing about 10 of Jason's button down shirts. I can barley fit them in his closet because there are already 35 in there. AND there are still 5 in the laundry room for the next round of ironing. Jason is always up for shopping and claims he "needs a few new shirts". REALLY!?
We donate our clothes every time Purple Heart or AM Vets calls, yet our house is still busting with our clothes. It overwhelms me.
I don't want to get rid of everything because both of us have been the same size forever and I don't see the point in buying all new clothes when the old stuff fits. How women keep up with the latest trends, including purses, jewelry, shoes, tights, belts, is beyond me. Where do they put all their stuff???
We did set aside about 5 shirts, 2 coats, 1 blazer, and 1 pair of pants for donation. The wedding dresses, I'm sad to say, are back in the closet.

I think if you keep up with the Joneses so to speak and stay in the new trends you get rid of the old stuff. For the rest of us however who can't or don't we hold onto it. I am the same as you. I've been the same size a long time and what if I want to wear that sometime : ) I just do what you do and get rid of a little at a time. Not working clothing retail has helped me too
