30 Day Mark

Jason and I are at home riding out hurricane Irene. Grandmom and Evie are having a slumber party at KKI.

Evie is up to 10 lbs, 11 oz!! You go girl. No more sucking on the bottle though. But let's restate the positives: Evie is gaining weight AND allowing objects in her mouth.

The hospital bills from four of the resorts are coming in. Anyone want to guess how much the bill is from JHH without doctor's expenses in there? We counted today is day 30 that Evster has been in the hospital. Our insurance approved Evie through 9/1 at KKI. We'll see if they allow her longer. That means she was home for FOUR days in August.

Evie keeps me strong with her smile through all the tests she's endured. As much as I didn't want to believe to the doctors, social workers, and nurses, this is a LONG process and our life won't be returning to normal for quite some time. This whole process has taught me I can't control ANYTHING. My heart wants to be with Evie every second. I won't lie, it also yearns to return to teaching next week. This summer was nothing like I expected it to be. All I ask is for a few days in our house with Evie and Parker again. While I constantly think none of my friends understand what this feels like because they have healthy, happy, eating, growing babies, I also know I am light years from understanding what a parent with a child that is paralyzed feels like.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?

Marisa, you and Jason continue to amaze me. You are incredibly loving and unbelievably strong parents. Evie is one lucky little girl.

We're thinking about you every day.
